What we do

Two services, one accountable team

Owners hire us to design the system, to develop the project, or both. The same engineers carry the work from study to commissioning, so decisions made early hold up in the field.

Engineering

Technical design that is sized to the load, specified for the site, and ready to build and operate.

  • Feasibility and conceptual design
  • Front-end engineering design (FEED)
  • Detailed design and equipment specifications
  • Electrical, controls, and automation engineering
  • Integration, testing, and commissioning support

Project Development

The work between an idea and a financed, buildable project, led by engineers who know what it takes to deliver.

  • Technology selection and project definition
  • Technical and economic evaluation
  • Site, resource, and fuel supply assessment
  • Scope packages and technical bid documents
  • Owner-side technical support through execution

Capabilities

From the generator to the control room

Power sources, storage, and the controls that tie them together, plus the fuels and facilities that supply and consume that energy.

Power & controls

Microgrids

Sizing, design, and integration of distributed energy resources (DER) in grid-connected and islanded systems for facilities, remote sites, and industrial plants.

Power Generation

Reciprocating engines (RICE) and gas turbines in simple cycle, combined cycle, and CHP. Diesel, natural gas, LPG, and dual-fuel units, from selection to paralleling and plant integration.

Solar Photovoltaic

Ground-mount and rooftop PV engineered to work alongside storage and thermal generation.

BESS

Battery energy storage for backup, peak shaving, and PV firming, with dispatch strategies that match how the site operates.

Microgrid Control Systems

Controllers that coordinate DER and loads, and move the site between grid and island operation.

Process Control

Control philosophy, instrumentation, and automation for power and process facilities.

Fuel Cells

Evaluation and integration of fuel cell systems as clean, firm power for demanding sites.

Fuels & industry

Biofuels

Engineering and development support for biofuel production and supply projects.

Sustainable Aviation Fuel

Project development and engineering for SAF facilities, from feedstock and process selection to plant definition.

Oil & Gas

Engineering and project development for upstream, midstream, and downstream facilities.

Reference scope

From submittals to a running microgrid

The scope below shows how we organize a full microgrid delivery. Every project is sized to its own load, fuel, and grid conditions.

Example configuration

A resilient microgrid, step by step

Distributed energy resources (DER) such as generation, solar, wind, and storage on one controlled bus, tied to the electrical grid and able to run on its own.

Step 1

Pre-construction & submittals

  • Pre-construction submittals
  • Long-lead procurement
  • SWPPP and permits
Step 2

Civil sitework & duct banks

  • Equipment pads and foundations
  • Duct banks and conduit
  • Site preparation
Step 3

Power generation & fuel resilience

  • RICE: diesel, gas, LPG, and dual-fuel
  • Gas turbines, simple and combined cycle
  • CHP and cogeneration
  • Fuel tanks and fuel reserve
Step 4

Renewable integration & BESS

  • Solar PV
  • Wind turbines
  • BESS integration
Step 5Central hub

Microgrid controls & switchgear

  • Microgrid control system
  • Paralleling switchgear
  • Transformers
  • Protective relaying
Step 6

Electrical grid integration

  • Utility interconnection
  • Net metering
  • Grid-parallel and island transfer
Step 7

Commissioning readiness

  • Start-up and full commissioning
  • As-built documentation
  • Energy resiliency

Approach

How a project moves with us

Each stage ends with a decision the owner can make with confidence. We scale the depth of each stage to the size and risk of the project.

Stage 1

Define

Load, fuel, site, and goals. We confirm what the system has to do.

Stage 2

Evaluate

Technology options compared on performance, cost, and risk.

Stage 3

Design

FEED and detailed engineering with specifications ready for procurement.

Stage 4

Integrate

Equipment, controls, and protection brought together and tested.

Stage 5

Commission

Start-up support and hand-over to the people who will run it.

About Arits Energy

A small firm with a long record

Arits Energy has spent more than 25 years engineering and developing energy projects. We work across conventional and new energy, which means we can compare options without a preferred answer in advance.

As a women-owned small business, we bring senior engineering attention to every project and the flexibility to work as the owner's engineer, as a design partner, or as a subcontractor to larger teams.

Leadership

Sue Espinosa, PE, PMP, MBA

Founder & CEO

Sue founded Arits Energy to bring senior engineering leadership to energy projects of every size. She is a licensed Professional Engineer in Control Systems, a Project Management Professional, and holds an MBA. She has more than 25 years of experience leading power generation projects from front-end loading and FEED through construction, commissioning, and startup.

Her work spans oil and gas, LNG, and energy infrastructure, using gas engines, gas and steam turbines, cogeneration, combined cycle, solar PV, and battery energy storage. In the Amazon Forest she directed a $1.2 billion portfolio of more than 100 projects, including seventeen islanded microgrids totaling 500 MW in remote oil fields, dispatched by economic merit under a single energy management system.

Today she leads Arits Energy's work in microgrids, power generation, and renewable fuels, including U.S. Department of Defense microgrid proposals, three of which were awarded. She specializes in multi-source generation, distributed energy resources (DER), power management and microgrid control systems, and medium- and high-voltage systems, and applies API, ASME, IEEE, ISA, IEC 61511, and NFPA standards.
